Sherwood confident of Villa turnaround

Sherwood’s team are without a league victory since the season’s opening day.

After the devastating defeat to Leicester last weekend, this was another alarming display Sherwood can not have seen coming.

“I just hope that they’re tempted to”, Sherwood said.

“My message would be ‘Please, just stay where you are supposed to and, hopefully, celebrate there. I’m looking to improve but I’m not anxious “. I can’t remember them all but the list has to include Chris Nicholl scoring all the goals in a 2-2 draw back in “76”.

“He got crucified for it and in some respects he deserves it but he is a young lad and he deserves help and for people to back him and work with him”.

“But it’s a transition period at this club”.

Williams made a string of crucial blocks that ensured Everton left south Wales frustrated after a contest in which they had the better chances but found Garry Monk’s side in resilient mood. So, it even adds more incentive for either side to get the win and create breathing space between their rivals.

The Baggies have not won at Villa Park since April 2011.

Pulis’ players were clearly on a revenge mission after those damaging defeats and should have taken the lead after just 70 seconds.

West Brom capitalised, with Darren Fletcher’s 20-metre drive tipped round the post by Guzan before Berahino broke the deadlock six minutes before the interval.

He lost out in every aerial tussle but did worry Albion after 26 minutes when he wriggled free on the left and crossed for the onrushing Carles Gil, who was denied by a brilliant block by Claudio Yacob.

Their breakthrough came soon before the break when Berahino stuck out a foot to steer James Morrison’s shot home. It will have been a tough week on the training ground as the players look to respond to such a bitter setback, and the performance here will go a long way to determining how much character the squad has.

Carlos Sanchez could only curl at Myhill in the aftermath.

West Brom have only won one of their last eight matches against Villa. “This was our best team performance of the season by a mile”. However, a couple more goals would be welcome, as Saido Berahino and summer signing Rickie Lambert are among the many players not yet off the mark.

“We’ll express ourselves and try to score goals”.

He found Rondon to lay off for Morrison, and his 18-yard effort was deliberately deflected past Guzan by Berahino.
