US To Increase Number of Refugees Admitted To 100000 in 2017

Even if the USA took in 30,000 Syrians over the next two years – an unlikely outcome, given that only 1,500 have been admitted since the start of the war – that number would pale in comparison to the hundreds of thousands that Germany is expected to accept, or the 800,000 Vietnamese that the US resettled in the years after the Vietnam war.

“It would be delusional to believe that President Assad can ever unite or govern a peaceful Syria”, Kerry said Sunday.

“In assessment by having Congress, we will typically keep going to discover steps to maximise everyone facts while keeping vigorous peace of mind”, Kerry explained a reports meeting after encountering German alien cleric FrankovervallenWalter Steinmeier. “And it will be accompanied by additional financial contributions to the humanitarian effort, not only from our government but from the American people“.

Under the new plan, the American limit on refugee visas would be increased to 85,000 in the fiscal year 2016.

Kerry told the Associated Press a lack of additional resources for security screening made absorbing more than 100,000 refugees impossible without Congress’ assistance. Obama has said the USA will accept at least 10,000 Syrians over the coming year displaced by the four-year-old civil war. Some Republican lawmakers have expressed hesitancy to do so saying that the USA could potentially be admitting terrorists.

The refugees will be referred by the United Nations and screened by Homeland Security before they are resettled around the country, NBC News reported.

“We have agreed on certain formats and processes by which we should try and proceed”, he said, adding that he would meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to discuss the situation in Syria. “It’s not just a German challenge”, but a European one, she said. For example, there is no suitable facility in Lebanon where Syrian refugees can be taken for interviews, so no interviews are occurring, according to the State Department.
