Darden’s wife, Diana Loesch, told the Post she planned on meeting her husband in Oman.
Darden had been helping oversee the transport of humanitarian supplies in Yemen for New Orleans-based Transoceanic Development, which confirmed his release.
The Omani foreign ministry, in a statement released on Saturday, did not offer any details of the incident the previous day, but condemned the attack and described it as a clear violation of global law.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to pursue the release of all Americans detained overseas unjustly, including those who remain in the region”, Kerry said in a statement.
Eight strikes hit a school Sunday in San’a that is connected to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, local security officials said. They are fighting government troops aided by a Saudi-led coalition.
He was taken hostage by Shiite Huthis rebels in Sanaa in March, it cited a USA administration official as saying, while naming the other freed American as Sam Farran.
In his first televised speech since an Arab alliance led by Saudi Arabia began military operations in Yemen, Abdel-Malek al-Houthi also called on Yemenis to demonstrate in Sanaa on Monday afternoon to mark the anniversary of his group’s capture of the capital.
The Saudi-led coalition’s airstrikes against Yemen’s Shiite rebels and their allies have killed 29 people, including civilians, in the capital Sanaa, security and medical officials there said on Saturday.
All six were flown to Oman, after the Gulf country helped negotiate their release.
At least 72 missiles attacked the capital with majority aiming at military targets in the suburbs of Sanaa and its neighbouring areas.
Also released in August was World Bank consultant Isabelle Prime, a French national who thanked Oman’s sultan for aiding her release.
