Buhari commiserates with Osinbajo, sends delegation to Ikenne

The lawmaker representing the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, Honourable Adesegun Adekoya Abdel-Majid has warned all politicians parading themselves as “Awoists” to stop shedding crocodile tears over the passing on to glory of the matriarch of the Awolowo family, Yeyeoba Hannah Dideolu Awolowo, HID.

Saharareporters learnt that the matriarch of the Awolowo family died in her sleep in her country home of Ikenne in Ogun state.

Mrs. Awolowo’s grand daughter is the wife of Nigeria’s current Vice President, Prof.

“Kind, compassionate, strict but loving, caring and sensitive, Mama was a great humanitarian and strong believer in service to the community”.

Her death was confirmed by one of her daughters, Dr. Tokumbo Awolowo.

Mama Awolowo truly distinguished herself among her contemporaries and not only because she lived longer but because she served God and humanity to the end.

“A great Iroko has indeed fallen but like every mortal, she must travel this path. She will be remembered for her resourcefulness and carriage, and for being the pillar behind the great Awo”.

“On behalf of myself and family, the people of the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, I commiserate with his children and family on her demise”, concluded the statement. For some of us, Mama knew us even when we were born. They should all take solace in the fact that Mama lived a good life. The sage himself captured her real essence when he fondly described her as “My Jewel of Inestimable value”. Nigeria will miss a great woman, the footprint left by papa is there, and mama had continued to maintain that footprint and the love for all of us.

They were emphatic in their tributes that her demise is a great loss not just for the Yoruba nation but to Nigeria as a whole.

The media reports that the late Awolowo would have clocked 100 years-old on November 25. “She was the matriarch of the Awolowo family, a well respected dynasty in the history of Nigeria”.

“Mama HID Awolowo kept the faith as she faithfully stuck to the ideals and principles that made her husband outstanding in the nation’s political landscape several years after his dea th”. She stood in for her husband in the alliance formed between the NCNC and the AG, called the United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA), while he was tried and in jailed.
