The building caught fire around 5 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters from as far away as Hampton and Londonderry were sent in to assist. The thick black smoke filling the air could be seen as far away as New Hampshire.

According to Mike Curtis of C&C Concrete, a neighboring business owner who was about to close on the building, there was a trash fire in the building on Wednesday.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said last night that he was on his way to the blaze and his agency had investigators “focused on the cause of the fire” on scene.

Patch will update this post when more information becomes available.

Mayor James Fiorentini told the Eagle-Tribune that a group was coming to meet with city officials about redeveloping the vacant buildings on Tuesday. Within minutes, fire went to four alarms.
