Sheikh Rashid, Son of Dubai’s Ruler, Dies of Heart Attack

The ruler’s court declared three days of mourning in Dubai where flags are expected to be flown at half-mast during the mourning period.

He was a founding member of Dubai Sports and Cultural Club, acting as chairman until his brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum took up the position in 2005.

He was also an avid sportsman and horse racing enthusiast, and owned Zabeel Stables.

Humble, generous and inspirational were how Emiratis like to remember Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who died on Saturday at the age of 34.

Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan additionally conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Sheikh Mohammed and the Al Maktoum family. He was educated in Dubai at the Rashid Private Secondary School.

UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs Sheikh Obaid Humaid Al Tayer saw them off at the airport. They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Sheikh Rashid died on the morning of September 19, 2015 after suffering a heart attack. His younger brother Sheikh Hamdan is Dubai’s crown prince. On his part, Sheikh Mohammed thanked King Salman and Prince Khaled for their noble feelings.
