Alsan wasn’t allowed to bring Rose on the journey, but regardless, he created a passport for the dog and walked almost 500 kilometers with him in arm.

“We’ve seen many like him carrying their animals with them on the long journey from Syria, across the Mediterranean Sea and through Europe”, the UNHCR wrote on its Youtbe account. “I need him… they said, “you can’t take your dog”, but I have food, I have water, I have everything”.

The teenager made his way to the Greek island of Lesbos, after first reaching Turkey.

But when forced to flee his home, he couldn’t bare the thought of leaving his pup Rose behind. He carried just a small backpack for his own belongings and explained, very simply, why he brought Rose: “I love my dog”. The UNHCR responded that they would be in touch with her.
