It appears the hot weather played a role in the death of a Watertown native who died while on a training exercise with Vermont state police.

The death certificate ruled Young’s death an accident. The section on death certificate noting how injury occurred states “strenuous physical activity in high environmental temperature”.
He collapsed about 2 p.m. Thursday while auditioning for the state police tactical team at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho.
Vermont Public Safety Commissioner Keith Flynn said in a statement that he ordered a review of the application and training processes for all State Police special-purpose teams. The high temperature Thursday was 86 degrees. Traffic will be closed from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. Wednesday on West Main Street, from Cemetery Road to Washington Street, in Brownville, troopers said.
The release says investigators are still working toward “a complete understanding of the circumstances” around the event.
New York State Police have issued a traffic advisory for motorists traveling through the area during Young’s funeral.
Calling hours will be held at the Cummings Funeral Home in Watertown Tuesday.
