Losing key players makes Sherwood’s Aston Villa job even harder

Asked if he saw the match as a chance to breathe life into Villa’s campaign, Sherwood replied: “I agree, it is, it’s a good one to win”.

Gana has flown back to France to receive a new opinion on his injury, and Sherwood communicated that Villa are eagerly anticipating hearing back from the Senegalese star man. While his status for Tuesday’s encounter is quite clear, there remains a possibility that he will be available next Saturday for Villa’s trip to Anfield.

“It means an terrible lot to the fans but it means a lot to us in the dressing room too, at this moment in time, because we need to experience that winning feeling again”.

“That’s part and parcel of the job, but it’s awful when you can’t get on to that field and do something about it. I look the players in the eye and I know that they’re bitterly disappointed with our points return but equally they know it’s not all doom and gloom”.

As for Villa, they’d managed an average of one goal per game in their last five league outings, and have Scott Sinclair and Rudy Gestede to thank for three of those goals. Gestede is in line to make his starting debut against Birmingham and is the 6/4 favourite to score anytime via bet365.

“It would mean a lot to me because I could send our fans away happy”.

“We know it has been a hard start to the season points-wise. It’s time our luck changed and something went for us”. You need to impose yourself on a very organised Birmingham City side.

“We are going to put an honest shift in, we are going to work hard, we have got a game-plan, we have got confidence and we have got good players as well”.

Brum boss Gary Rowett expects nothing less than a scrap from the side from across the city.

“This game will be blood and thunder, it is going to be intense”.

Rowett said: “Tim Sherwood is a fighter, he is going to fight again for another game in front of their fans”.

“I know there is huge rivalry and fierce rivalry and I understand that and completely respect that, but I think we just have to make sure that there is a level of control”.
