Rutgers can’t stop Penn State backs, lose 28-3

The offense has been bad, the defense just okay, and this hasn’t looked remotely like a team capable of challenging the big boys for anything real in the Big Ten East race. “He’s doing everything right”. Coach Paul Chryst said his team may be finding out more about itself than in early games in seasons past. I don’t think he cares that much.

Chris Gulla took over punting, and his season debut included a 52-yard boomer in the second quarter.

“We certainly wanted a win, but getting a point on the road in the Big Ten Conference is tough and we came out with a point today”, said Head Coach Bob Warming. “In the last couple weeks he’s really come on strong”.

Whitehall’s all-time leading rusher also had carries of 40 and 54 yards in the fourth quarter.

Hackenberg posted another pedestrian performance, going 10-of-19 for 141 yards and an interception, but it was the running back duo of Akeel Lynch and Saquon Barkley that gashed Rutgers all night long.

Penn State running back Saquon Barkley (26) slips the tackle of Rutgers defensive lineman Djwany Mera (93) during the first half of an NCAA college football game in State College, Pa., Saturday, September 19, 2015.

Wtih Penn State’s Thompkins and fellow freshman Nick Scott turning in 58-yard returns on punt and kickoffs, respectively, last week, the special teams battle is shaping up to be a big one. Penn State coach James Franklin wants to see better directional kicking and hang time from punter Daniel Pasquariello, while first-year kicker Joey Julius is 3-of-4 on field-goal tries. Kenny Cunningham got his foot on the ball and put a shot off the right post that had the angle it needed to get past Bersano and into the back of the net to allow OSU to take the 1-0 lead in the 17th-minute of the match. Christian Hackenberg completed 14 of 27 passes for 128 yards and one touchdown. The Scarlet Knights, who were averaging 244.5 rushing yards coming into the game, were held to 65 yards on 30 attempts. “The plan was to run the ball any way he managed to gain”.

Through two games this season, Nassib has been one of the most dominant players in the entire country, tallying 15 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.
