VW rolls out 2016 Passat
Volkswagen’s new range of modular infotainment systems, MIB II, is now available and adds capacitive touchscreens on most models, enabling gesture controls such as swiping and pinch-to-zoom; there’s also a proximity sensor on many variants.

Additionally, the 2016 Passat comes with an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System that applies the brakes after a crash in order to reduce the damage caused by secondary impacts. VW Car-Net includes App-Connect technology, featuring the three major smartphone integration platforms-Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and MirrorLink®. At the front sit reshaped headlights (LED units optional) that flow into the broad four-bar grille – the topmost full-width chrome bar runs across the top of both headlights, just like the B8. The trunk, window arches and bumpers also get some new chrome bits.
Third, the fresh design, according to CNET, has tweaks to the Sedan’s style and trim line-up and the addition of a new R-Line trim package that VW likes to inject some sportiness that the other lacks.
Finally, a new foot-operated trunk feature has been installed, which allows you to open the rear cargo hold by waving your foot under the rear bumper.
The front and rear of the Passat get a new chiseled look, but it’s not so jarring a change that anyone who bought or avoided a Passat because of its styling will likely regret their decision.
Introduced for the first time on the US-market Passat is the R-Line pack, featuring a sportier front bumper, side skirt and rear diffuser design, as well as 19-inch anthracite “Salvador” alloy wheels shod with 235/40-section tyres.
Inside all of the 2016 Passats, motorists will see a new instrument panel, steering wheel and column stalk design, two-tone décor panels, and refined chrome and piano black trim.
They also said that the 2016 Volkswagen Passat is going to have some changes made to the interior of the vehicle too.
The revamp of the Passat is VW’s biggest 2016 model update in America and the first since the Chattanooga factory started producing the US version of the vehicle in 2011. Backup cameras are now standard on all Passat models.
The 2016 Passat will be sold in three US powertrains – the 1.8-liter turbocharged and direct-injection TSI four-cylinder; 2.0-liter TDI; and the 3.6-liter VR6 engine, which has 280 horsepower, one of the highest outputs in the midsize sedan class. The 2016 Passat 1.8T has an EPA estimated highway fuel economy rating of 38 mpg with the automatic transmission.
