South Carolina vs Georgia, 52-20: Full highlights, final score and more

The Gamecocks, regardless of how good or bad they are, always play well against Georgia. Elliott Fry kicked a 51-yard field goal on the final play of the half, set up by Shon Carson’s 51-yard return and a facemask penalty, but that was South Carolina’s last hurrah.

The Gamecocks fought back on the next possession with a steady dose of the ground game on the way to a 4-yard touchdown run for Orth, his first career TD run as Carolina cut the deficit to 17-10. And it’s one that – for South Carolina – must seem lost to history. If South Carolina can play like that at Georgia, it will be another close game. Lambert has a touchdown pass in six of his last seven games. Georgia won 52-20.

Over the summer Georgia brought in Greyson Lambert from Virginia as a graduate transfer, but so far the results have been mixed. Saturday, September 19, 2015, in Athens, Ga.

Bulldogs counterpart Mark Richt, who is 5-6 against Spurrier as a head coach, was asked Tuesday if he could imagine himself coaching in the SEC at 70.

Georgia quarterback Greyson Lambert passes against the South Carolina Gamecocks during the first half at Sanford Stadium Saturday night. “I’m disappointed in that, but we’ll forgive him”. But we (coaches) looked at each other after three series and said we have to leave him in there. I have to do a better job, and the assistants got to get their guys to play better.

The Georgia Bulldogs are now undefeated, but they haven’t been tested this season.

Talk about silencing the critics.

The Knights are 0-3 and coming off a loss to Furman, while the Gamecocks will be trying to right themselves after a 52-20 shellacking at the hands of No. 6 Georgia on Saturday night.

“There was really nothing but grass”, Richt said. Spurrier also said if the time comes that he wants to use the freshman quarterback he will, but only if he feels it’s necessary. “We will try our best to put a decent team, a good team, out there for our fans this week”. First-time starting quarterback Perry Orth, a former walk-on, threw an interception deep in South Carolina territory to set up the Bulldogs for a touchdown and a 38-13 lead.

As was the case last season, the undoing of the Gamecocks (1-2, 0-2 SEC) against Georgia was their porous defense – which gave up almost ten yards per play and forced third downs on only four occasions.

I have a world of respect for Steve Spurrier. (At one point, he completed 20 consecutive passes, a school record.) His 96% completion mark is a new NCAA record (minimum 20 attempts). The sophomore tailback stretched his consecutive 100 yard rushing streak to 11 games with 159 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown.

The Dawgs can also take pride in knowing that after next week’s easy victory over Southern University they will welcome Alabama to town on October 3 with a flawless record and (likely) Top 5 ranking. I am leaning towards LSU on this one, but as hard as it is, don’t overreact to Auburn’s poor performance last week.

From a historical standpoint, the rivalry between Georgia and South Carolina has been a lopsided one in favor of the Bulldogs.
