Konami denies reports that they’ve stopped production on AAA games

Last week it was rumored that Konami had put an end to the production of triple-A titles. The report came first from French site Gameblog and was later confirmed by Eurogamer.

We recently reported on rumours that suggested veteran publisher Konami was abandoning AAA console development with the exception of its Pro Evolution Soccer series. There are now no plans for any future Metal Gear Solid games aside from Metal Gear Online – the online component to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain that is now being finalised.

While Konami has no triple A titles on its slate in the next year, the developer still holds the license to the Euro 2016 football tournament, which not even Konami would be insane enough to just throw away. “Yes…it’s pretty sad…now, I can’t write music to any of AAA games.well, I need to find another AAA game company”, Muranaka posted on her official Twitter page. More damning it an additional report that Fox Engine lead Julien Merceron has left the company. If the reports turn out to be accurate though, then “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” is going to be the company’s farewell to the fans who have supported them since the beginning.

What role Hideo Kojima will play in this if any is still unknown. The company also stripped Kojima’s name from the box art of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, though Kojima’s name is still in the game’s credits.
