Steve McClaren says he is sure Newcastle will turn form around

Today Lee Bowyer has given his view on Newcastle United’s start to the season, talking about the new signings, Steve McClaren and what he saw when he attended the Arsenal match at St James Park.

With only goal difference separating Newcastle from 20th place and close rivals Sunderland, Janmaat insists his team must improve their performances.

But de Jong, introduced as a half-time substitute during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Watford, thinks there is enough quality to climb up the table if the right formula and way of playing is found quickly.

One player who has been singled out for criticism from some sections of the media and Newcastle support is Coloccini, but McClaren opted against naming individuals. “We know what we have to do, we know the solutions, we just have to go out there and do it”.

Newcastle are winless in the league so far this season and host Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup third round on Wednesday.

He said: “Of course we need results, for the fans and for ourselves as well”. We want to progress in the cup and we want everybody in – the players that played and the players that didn’t play. “That’s the character we need”. The first games of the season have been a awful start for Newcastle, who have only managed to get 2 points from their first 6 matches.

But on the other side, you want to get in the box when the ball comes so you try.

Even though Newcastle brought in some good quality players in the summer, it can take a while for them to gel into a new team, and into a new country as well.

“We felt we needed to add some type of pace and approach it a little differently”.
