Sand City police officials confirmed the incident, said what happened was still being sorted out, but said all details would have to come from the Monterey County District Attorney’s office, which did not answer calls.

Both suspects succumbed to their injuries while the officers sustained non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

The scene quickly became chaotic, Gygax said, as she saw patrol cars and ambulances coming from everywhere.

Two suspects were gunned down and two police officers were injured in a gunfight outside a Sand City Target store in Monterey County in California on Monday afternoon. Currently, no further information has been released about the suspects, and none will be until their next of kin is notified.

The two subjects’ deaths were the third and fourth killings in Sand City this year.

And in April, Helen Morrow, 79, was stabbed in her Sand City home.
