Luc Besson’s ‘Taken’ Prequel Has Arrived at NBC
It will follow Mills as he learns the ropes and becomes a man who has acquired “a very particular set of skills”. According to a story at Deadline, a Taken TV series is on the way and has just been given a full season order by the network. The trend of routing movie franchises to TV, the state of the Taken franchise, and NBC being … well, NBC, a young Bryan Mills is about to develop a very particular set of skills. Despite the Taken TV series following a younger Mills, though, it will be set in present day, serving as a prequel to the film franchise in the same way that Bates Motel serves as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Star Liam Neeson is not involved in the project, but the original film’s writer Luc Besson created the new prequel series and is searching for a writer and showrunner.
Search is underway for a writer/showrunner to spearhead the adaptation. Straight-to-series orders like Taken (and Coach) come as broadcast, cable and streaming services compete for high-demand fare in a bid to break through.
“Taken” first premiered in 2008, and was a surprise box-office hit, resulting in two sequel series in 2012 and 2014.

NBC and EuropaCorp are now looking for a screenwriter/showrunner to bring Taken to television. Other Besson movies that have been turned into series include La Femme Nikita and Transporter.
