Investigators interviewed the driver and several gym members Tuesday morning.
It does not appear that alcohol or drugs played a role, Rebiejo said.
The area around the gym will be closed for several hours following the crash.
The driver of the white SUV Mercedes was not injured, according to police.
The vehicle drove into the Lifestyle Fitness gymnasium in the 1100 block of E. Stanley Boulevard at around 6:25 a.m., Officer Traci Rebiejo said.
Six people were injured in the accident.
One of the six was in critical condition, police said.
Authorities say an 80-year-old driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake when she crashed through the front doors of a Northern California health club, killing one person and injuring five others.
Five people were treated for minor injuries, including complaints of pain.
Livermore is about 45 miles east of San Francisco.
