The police spokesman added there was no evidence of a plan for an attack in Germany.

He says “it gives us great concern that Islamists in Germany are using the situations of the refugees for their own purposes under the guise of providing humanitarian help”.

He said the number of ultra-conservative Salafist Muslims in Germany had risen to 7,900, compared with 7,500 in June.

He said the BfV was keeping close watch on such activities given their “significant radicalisation potential” in the migrant community. No arrests were made.

The statement continues: “The investigations relate to a 51-year-old Moroccan who is suspected to have instigated others to participate in Syria on the part of militant jihadist groups”. Jörg Rademacher, a spokesman for the state government, told Germany’s Catholic News Agency that the Islamist propaganda to Syrian refugees is “not a mass phenomenon”.

“…Furthermore, the investigation also runs against a 19-year-old Macedonian, who is suspected to be present to participate in the armed struggle in Syria with militant jihadist groups”. Seven homes were also searched. “This is about attacks planned in Syria, and efforts to recruit fighters to carry out these attacks”, Redlich said.
