“The Governor has expressed directly to the General that his failure to meet that standard or to provide notification of his formal reprimand is both unacceptable and disappointing”, Christie spokesman Kevin Roberts told the Post in an email, adding that the governor gave Cunniff 90 days to get in shape and “meet his obligations”. This comes a day after the Washington Post’s Craig Whitlock dropped his story on a guard unit that had become “increasingly dysfunctional”, while also revealing a secret reprimand from the Pentagon chiding Cunniff for skirting weight regulations and physical fitness tests for at least three years.

“Scott Walker’s campaign may be dead, but his anti-working family policies live on in the candidacy of Chris Christie”.

In a written statement from the National Guard, Cunniff admits struggling with his weight in his adult life and for not meeting his fitness requirements in recent years.

Cunniff: I had gained a lot of weight… and since I couldn’t pass it because of my weight/waist size… The general admits his weight is a struggle.

In a statement, Cunniff said he was taking steps to remedy the issue.

“However, I do recognize that military members and leaders, like myself, are held to a higher standard”.
