Help Build A Trail At Brainard Lake For National Public Lands Day

As part of National Public Lands Day, the largest single day volunteer effort for public lands, Yellowstone National Park is seeking volunteers for two work projects that will occur in the Lamar Valley on Saturday, September 26. All tools, supplies, and gloves will be provided by the park, along with lunch.

The day will conclude at Odlin County Park with snacks and a raffle. Each volunteer participant will receive a free t-shirt, compliments of REI, and a fee-free coupon good for one day of free entry to participating federal public lands.

According to park officials, volunteers should bring water, sunscreen, appropriate footwear (no flip-flops), and a “can-do” attitude. Planned activities include kayaking, footbridge construction, a beach clean-up, marine invertebrate identification, nature walks, trail projects and all day kid friendly activities including an environmentally focused story time and a scavenger hunt.

Pennsylvania volunteers will join a workforce across the country that is committed to carrying on the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the “tree army” that exemplified land stewardship from 1933-1942 by preserving and protecting America’s natural heritage.

The Pacific Northwest Region consists of 16 National Forests, 59 District Offices, a National Scenic Area, and a National Grassland.

National Public Lands Day is a fairly young event, founded only 21 years ago in 1994 but its scope belies its age. The National Environmental Education Foundation manages, coordinates and generates financial support for the program. This year’s event takes place from 8 a.m.to 1 p.m.
