Edward Snowden: Advanced Encryption May Stop Us Communicating With Aliens

Two years ago, Snowden released documents that claim proving alien intelligence agenda has been driving the US government since 1945.

The famous USA government whistleblower was physically present in Moscow, while a telepresence robot under his full remote control was transmitting his image and voice live via a video link all the way across the ocean to North America. Tyson then asked Snowden how encryption could be linked to communication with…alien civilizations.

For the US government, Edward Snowden decidedly fell into the traitorous villain category, and the USA slapping him with charges of theft and espionage sent Snowden fleeing to Russian Federation , where he received asylum. If aliens are trying to communicate with earth (and no, we can’t believe we just typed that either) and their commutations are encrypted, those hoping to intercept these message would miss them completely.

Snowden explains that when communications are encrypted, there isn’t really a way for anyone to tell that things are encrypted.

Speaking with Neil deGrasse Tyson on the astrophysicist’s StarTalk podcast (the relevant section starts 30 minutes in), Snowden suggests that a universal need to keep communications secure could mean that alien signals are simply too well encrypted to be distinguished from background noise.

How would encryption affect deep space communications, Tyson wondered during his latest episode Friday. Later during the conversation, the topic turned to encryption and how it might make it almost impossible to recognize alien communication.

‘When we think about everything that we’re hearing through our satellites or everything that they’re hearing from our civilization (if there are indeed aliens out there), all of their communications are encrypted by default. Enlarge Jemal Countess Neil deGrasse Tyson joked that Edward Snowden assumes that alien lifeforms have the same security problems as on Earth. Snowden admits that it’s possible that aliens are “politically a little bit more enlightened” than we are.

Once that window has passed, messages would be so well encrypted that the recipient – be it humans or aliens – wouldn’t be able to distinguish them from cosmic microwave background radiation.
