Dolphins CB Will Davis traded to the Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have obtained cornerback Will Davis from the Miami Dolphins for a 2016 seventh-round draft pick.

While the Dolphins lost value by trading a former third round choice for a seventh round pick, Davis was drafted under the former regime of general manager Jeff Ireland. He suffered an ACL injury last November, which ended his season. Born May 8, 1990 in Torrance, California, Davis attended Central Valley High School in Veradale, Washington.

Miami carries a surplus of cornerbacks with Brent Grimes, Jamar Taylor, Brice McCain, Zack Bowman, Bobby McCain and rookie Tony Lippett on the 53-man roster.

Cameron is nursing a groin strain, and because of Dion Sims’ concussion – which kept the him from playing in Sunday’s 23-20 loss to the Jaguars – the Dolphins could use another tight end to pair with Jake Stoneburner. In 15 games, Davis recorded 24 tackles and defended three passes. He did enjoy a solid preseason, including a pair of interceptions in the exhibition finale.

The trade frees up a roster spot and the Dolphins might have areas of need this week. Davis was nothing more than a depth player for the Dolphins.
