After a red carpet welcome by President Barack Obama at an air base near the capital, the 78-year-old Argentine headed off to Washington not in a limousine as is customary but in a modest Fiat.

State Rep. Dan Ramos will be among those greeting Pope Francis when the pontiff arrives in Washington, D.C., on September 23.
It may have been summed up best by Bishop Gregory Hartmayer of the Savannah Catholic Diocese “We’re looking forward to seeing the pope and welcoming him to the USA , listening to his wisdom and his words and his reflection on the importance of the family”.
On Wednesday, the pope is set to meet with Obama at the White House, participate in a parade along the national mall and participate in religious services.
The leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, Francis said his teachings on economic fairness and climate change are “all in the social doctrine of the Church”. “My desire is that they end up with a good result, that they reach an accord that satisfies both sides, an accord, certainly”.
“I told him, ‘I’m the one following the Church, ‘” Pope Francis said.

However, while he’s in America, Pope Francis won’t be using the Fiat as his “Popemobile” — the vehicle he uses to make a public appearance to crowds.
“Not everyday in here we get people who come in here to actually give us encouragement or hope”, said Shynece. “But when the pope chooses to act and talk like a leftist politician, then he can expect to be treated like one”, Gosar wrote in an op-ed on Townhall.com, a conservative website.

Papal visits are unique by nature, but Pope Francis’ popularity and message of inclusion is drawing in many more visitors, of all faiths, and bringing unprecedented security to protect them.
