Some evacuees loaded boxes of their only belongings – mostly new donated clothes, blankets and other necessities – into cars and pickups.
Flames burn in the remains of a home destroyed by the Butte Fire, Saturday, September 12, 2015, in Mountain Ranch, Calif. Dora Rainey lost her home and says they will move to The Red Cross Shelter at the Twin Pine Casino Event Center in Middletown. “And my neighbors up on top, their place is burned down”. It was the third wildfire to hit Lake County in three months. There are about 100 people there, with room for more by this weekend.
Eaton said he’s never seen a fire like this one in the area of his home.
Supervisor Brown said 48 rooms at the shuttered Konocti Harbor Resort and Spa will soon be available for temporary housing, and a hotel in Cobb will offer 30 rooms as soon as that area is reopened to residents. It destroyed 1,910 structures that include 1,238 single-family homes, 23 multi-family homes, 64 commercial structures and 585 other structures such as sheds and smaller outbuildings, according to Cal Fire.
