According to a report by The Punch, the fire which started at about 2:30am lasted several hours leaving over 15 vehicles destroyed with another 10 others partly burnt. The Public Relations Officer of National the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South-West, Ibrahim Farinloye, who confirmed both fire incidents said the no-one died in both incidents.
Sources said the fire began from the director’s office on the second floor of the Good Shepherd Building housing LIRS around 8.30am.
It was caused by a default capacitor of one of the air conditioners in the office.
As a result of ensuing pandemonium, hundreds of panic stricken workers in the four-storey building scampered for safety, The fire was, however, put out by men of the Lagos State Fire Service, whose office is nearby, 30 minutes after it started.
“The only affected area was the newly renovated office which has not been allocated to any staff; the total span affected by the fire was not more than two metres in the entire office”, he said.
