Rangers face their biggest test of the season so far as they host St. Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup at Ibrox this evening.

Dumbarton manager Stevie Aitken admitted he could not have asked for much from his players and is adamant they coped well against the team he is convinced will win this season’s Championship and secure promotion to Scotland’s top flight.

The Gers are also hoping to enjoy a lengthy run in the domestic cup competitions, which should allow them to test themselves against Premiership sides on a regular basis.

“They will probably have it wrapped up by February if we’re honest”. So in the four key areas we’ve got good quality.

“It is a tough place to come, they are well organised and we were respectful of that and the threat they posed”. It’s just the next game for us and it has to be that way.

“I don’t see the gulf between the Premiership and the Champpionship that I see between the Premier League and the Championship down south”, he said.

“Of course there’s a difference – you look at the likes of Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts and they are tremendously talented teams”. It’s all hypothetical at the moment, but we are a good squad – technically sound, physically strong with good tactical awareness and strong mental belief. We have players from Arsenal and Tottenham. The main thing is the togetherness in the dressing room.

“Obviously, I didn’t know what was about to happen to the club”. With the amount of chances he creates, he will get better and better, I have no doubt.

Manager Tommy Wright has watched Rangers on several occasions to map out his game plan. We’re delighted with Rob the last few weeks.

“Teams are working very, very hard to try and stop us, and I think that’s having an effect as we go beyond the hour mark in games as we get more space and more time, and we can hurt teams”. “She must have found out through one of the social media sites – I’m not into that stuff myself”.

“The adrenaline I got from scoring that day and seeing that banner unfurled was superb”.

“In the first half we were a little bit sloppy in the final third in terms of maintaining our shape”.
