Princes William and Harry show off DIY skills for veterans building project

The Big Build: Veteran’s Special will renovate eight buildings, streetscape an entire street and rejuvenate the façade of 62 houses – as well as build a training and counseling center on the site.

During Wednesday’s visit, William and Harry will also meet the street’s existing residents. She was well chuffed with Harry.

Former military man Paul Murphy, who owns a scaffolding company, said he may change the name to “Royal Chorlton Scaffolding” after being given the royal seal of approval from the brothers.

The 47-year-old, who served with 2nd Battalion The Royal Irish Rangers, said he would not be washing his hands after shaking the duke’s hand twicet. “I know you will all be fearsomely proud of being a part of this team”, said Prince William.

The project will see several empty properties on Canada Street, Newton Heath, transformed into liveable homes for ex-service personnel.

William courted controversy after the Welsh team sang traditional folk song Lawr ar lan y mor, when he joked: “Thank God the Welsh team play rugby better than they sing”.

He added: “I wish you all the best of luck and I look forward to supporting you every step of the way”. We have got them this Saturday.

Harry has made no secret about his love for rugby, especially the English side, and no doubt that comment from his brother will be seen as fighting words ahead of the England v Wales game on Saturday night (Sunday morning Australian time).

He added that Prince Harry had shunned his brother’s painting.
