The Raiders refuse to paint their 50-yard line gold … for some reason

Davis said he spoke with 49ers’ owner Jed York to make sure there were no misunderstandings. “The last six home baseball games are through this weekend, and there will be no gold marks for the rest of the Raiders’ regular season”. The A’s season will be done by the Raiders next home game, and all appropriate markings will be on the field.

According to Sports Business Daily, the Raiders have decided they’re not going to paint their 50-yard markers gold this season.

National Football League stadiums have been painting their 50-yard lines gold in honor of the 50th Super Bowl, set to be held this February in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Only, there’s a dissenter among the ranks. “I think we had a little bit to do with the (AFL-NFL) merger”.

Team officials haven’t returned e-mails or phone calls to explain their stance, but this certainly brings back memories of Davis, the Raiders’ late owner who at times did everything he could to stick it to the league’s honchos.

Super Bowl 50 promises to be one of the most celebrated championship games in sports history, but not everyone is in the party mood, it seems. The general manager of the coliseum has been quoted as saying: “The Raiders did not want the gold 50s painted and it had nothing to do with sharing a facility with the Oakland Athletics”. “We’ve played in 10 percent of the Super Bowls, and we hope to play in it next year”. Davis says the 50s will be in gold for the next home game, October 11 against Denver. He said the Raiders were not planning to do it at all, even after baseball season ended.

“It’s unbelievable the ideas that people are throwing out there in terms of reasons why we’re doing it”, Davis said.
