UCLA reinstates junior CB Ishmael Adams

He’s accepted responsibility. He’s accepted the consequences.

Moreau started 25 games over the previous two seasons for the Bruins, steadily improving as a tackler and a coverage defender.

Mora announced senior cornerback Fabian Moreau will miss the rest of the season with a Lisfranc injury – a foot fracture that can sometimes lead to chronic pain if an athlete rushes back into action.

No. 9 UCLA travels to No. 16 Arizona this week in the Pac-12 opener for both schools. On Friday, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Offices referred the case to the L.A. City Attorney’s office for misdemeanor consideration, not felony charges.

Mora described the loss of Moreau as a “huge blow”, per Jack Wang of the Los Angeles Daily News. He was suspended by UCLA for his alleged robbery of a Uber driver, with one report indicating that Adams used physical force to obtain a cell phone from the driver. He’s apologized profusely to his teammates, his staff and he’s come back with a great attitude. “If things change, we’ll adjust”. But we feel like given the circumstances and the fact that he has served a significant penalty, we’re going to reinstate him.

“I think (Adams) is ready to play”, Mora continued. “I don’t know if he can play a whole game, but he won’t have to”.

Even if he doesn’t help on special teams, Adams’ return is a major boost for a UCLA outfit that’s beginning to look like a playoff contender. Coming into the season, Moreau, a senior, had 109 career tackles. Redshirt freshman Denzel Fisher saw time at cornerback Saturday, but BYU quarterback Tanner Mangum noticeably began targeting that side of the field.

Mora said Moreau would likely pursue a medical redshirt. Mora, a longtime National Football League defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator, said Moreau is “an National Football League corner, without a doubt”. But that’s part of this game, unfortunately.
