NASCAR hits Clint Bowyer with championship-crippling penalties
The P2 level penalty stemmed from infractions relating to Sections 12.1, 20.4b and 20.4.2a of the NASCAR rule book – the right side quarter panel behind the rear wheel/tire of the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet was modified during pre-qualifying inspection.

After Denny Hamlin won the first race of the 2015 Chase for the Sprint Cup last weekend at Chicagoland, the series advances to the east coast and New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Rudd, who once used duct tape to keep his swollen eyes open so he could drive, set the mark in 2002 when he snapped Terry Labonte’s streak of 655 consecutive races.
The team said in a statement it “respectfully disagrees”, with the penalties. “We look forward to the opportunity to present our case to the appeals committee and have no further comment until the process is completed”.
“During that race and after that race it is only going to be a celebration”, Gordon said about his final race.
Labonte broke his left wrist in a crash during practice at Phoenix, where he was leading Gordon in the championship battle with two races remaining.
“That’s one of those things I feel unusual talking about because I do appreciate and respect the safety of this sport and the side that it can be taken away from you at any time”, Gordon told NASCAR.com. His crew chief has been suspended the next three weeks and fined $75,000.
Stewart-Haas Racing said Gibson plans to be at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for Sunday’s race, but will not leave North Carolina until he’s able.
Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Danica Patrick, Clint Bowyer, Carl Edwards and Jamie McMurray have all been in the booth this year for either Fox of NBC Sports Network.
The Nos. 18 and 54 Toyotas of Joe Gibbs Racing also received penalties following the Xfinity Series events at Chicagoland Speedway.
Suarez’s crew chief Eric Phillips and crew member John Egbert, Jr. were placed on probation through December 31, 2015. Crew chief Chris Gayle was fined $12,500 and put on probation through December 31.

Rob Kauffman, the owner of the #15 Toyota for MWR, was docked 25 Sprint Cup Series Championship owner points along with Bowyer’s deduction in points and Scott’s suspension and monetary penalty. Gordon had barely begun what was to become a spectacular career, having won his first two races, at Charlotte and Indianapolis, earlier that season.
