Many gathered at flag pole’s Wednesday morning all around the country to pray.

The event began in 1990 as a way for public school students to gather in prayer outside of school hours.

Jordan Taylor, a senior lineman for the South Side High School football team, has coordinated prayer meetings in the parking lot of the football stadium in the past. Students prayed for their school, friends, teachers, government and the nation. “It’s good that we have him here in the United States”, he said. The law was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1990. That unity was exemplified in the communal singing that started as a solo voice singing “Lead Me to the Cross”; Sauceda said by the time the chorus arrived all the attendees joined together. “But this is just showing that we have the right to do it. We have faith that He does respond to our prayers maybe exactly like we’re asking but He does respond to them”.

The Peace Pole, which says, “Peace prevail on earth” in four different languages remained outside on the steps for the day as students headed into class.
