Tigers defensive players ready for Mississippi State

Syracuse (3-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast) will get all of Fournette’s 6-foot-1, 230-pound frame on Saturday at noon in the Carrier Dome. “And now we’ve got our hands full with maybe the best college team I’ve coached against”. So that’s big for the program, and we’re happy about that. Following week three action, the “traditional powers” – and their fan bases – are having as much difficulty accepting change as those covering the sport.

Auburn defensive back Jonathan Ford made the mistake of saying, ahead of the game, that stopping Fournette “wouldn’t be a challenge”. With his own eyes, Muschamp saw live the project he’d inherited and promised it would get better after he signed a three-year guaranteed contract to be the Tigers defensive coordinator that would pay him $1.6 million annually.

Arciniega: LSU is a good team. “It’ll be interesting to see how they manage the whole offense”.

Alabama goes down, same with USC…..Both at home.

Fournette is getting a ton of Heisman hype now, though. “They are all great running backs”. “All of our backs can make plays”. But the nerves proved to be unnecessary when the Tigers came out on top 21-19 behind the stunning play of RB Leonard Fournette. Do you view this as a chance to make a statement about Syracuse’s defense? “All of them can gain yards”.

Life was good as Auburn was comfortably leading 16-3 with under two minutes to go. But, the refs overlooked the obvious tipping the ball forward penalty on the Tide’s on-sides kick, so we’ll call it even okay.

“Coming in as walk-on transfer you don’t expect to start, especially with a fifth-year senior you expect to learn from for a year”, Mahoney said.

Arciniega: As a whole, the defense has been on the same page.

The LSU football team ranks among the best in the country in rush defense, forcing teams to find production through the air.

While we can’t question his school spirit, we may question his math. Considering the Syracuse Yellow Pages boast almost 30 liquor stores to service its 145,000 locals, to suggest that importing 7,500 more people would completely decimate the city’s supply of alcohol seems pretty preposterous. From here on out, we’ll most likely be an underdog in a lot of these games, and as a team, that’s our mentality.

Shafer marveled at LSU’s offensive line, too.

“There are a couple guys on Auburn who turned the tackle down”, CBS analyst Gary Danielson said after the play.

Arciniega: It hasn’t been really mentioned.

So while this has been a very nice start to the season under trying circumstances, there’s a very large, sharp pin out there ready to burst the bubble.

Arciniega: The other guys, really. That has to be frustrating for the team. Thank you coach. This is what we stand for and I thank LSU Athletics. The vice president of the LSU Alumni Association reportedly claimed their fans would drink Syracuse dry. “I’ll be pushing them, but they have the same skill set to do the same things I do”.

Arciniega: Yeah. That’s what we’re shooting for. It’s a long way for them to come.
