System Shock: Enhanced Edition hits GOG
“System Shock” is one of those fantastic games that’s nearly impossible to play because of newer operating systems – thankfully, that won’t be the case any longer, as an updated version just launched earlier today!

System Shock: Enhanced Edition is a remastering with several welcome upgrades.
Then again, there’s a reason why more modern gamers haven’t played through System Shock – the game wouldn’t run on modern PC operating systems.
Both System Shock: Enhanced Edition and Classic are available in a single package and will be discounted during its launch week. It overhauls the game to make it playable, adding mouselook so you don’t have to deal with archaic early-90s shooter controls.
System Shock is a sci-fi adventure set in a research facility called the Citadel.

“System Shock: Enhanced Edition now comes with official support for resolutions up to 1024×768 (compared to the original 640×480), and a native 854×480 widescreen mode”. Now the player’s job is to subvert SHODAN’s plan from inside the station, fighting robots, cyborgs, and mutants along the way. That’s fine too – GOG.com has bundled System Shock’s classic edition with the purchase. Gameplay tweaks include a toggleable mouselook mode, improved inventory and item management, remappable controls, and numerous bug-fixes. That’s a shame, too: despite its relative lack of popularity, System Shock has been influencing the gaming industry for years. It’s available on GOG.com, nice and DRM-free, and everyone who already owns System Shock 2 will get a 40% discount for a limited time.
