Christian Benteke: Liverpool striker to have hamstring scan

Christian Benteke is to undergo a scan on his hamstring, Liverpool assistant manager Gary McAllister has confirmed.

Following on from that, if the injury is worse than first thought, he could miss next week’s Europa League game against FC Sion, and then potentially the derby game at home to Everton.

However, Benteke is unlikley to play when the pair meet on Saturday at Anfield (3pm kick-off) as he is still suffering from a hamstring strain.

McAllister, who has become part of the coaching staff at the Merseyside giants this season, has expressed his delight with the emergence of the Liverpool-born starlet.

Former Leeds boss McAllister – who faced Carlisle in the 2008 League One play-offs – added: “There will be some changes but we’ve got a strong squad”.

Benteke has so far featured in all six Premier League matches for his side this term while managing to net a total of two goals.

“Danny came on and it was refreshing to see his performance“, McAllister said.

Daniel Sturridge made his first appearance since April on Sunday, playing 63 minutes against the Canaries after recovering from hip surgery.

“Danny Ings does that every single day in training”. “His desire and work rate was phenomenal, he used to close down the whole back four and enjoy doing it”. It largely kept him out of action for Belgium, and while he seemed fine following his return to club action against Manchester United, against Norwich it forced him off at the half.

“They’ve had a really good result at QPR, so they’re capable and they’re scoring goals in their division as well”. There was no nefarious behavior as we saw with some other players.
