Flames’ TJ Brodie breaks bone in his hand
It’s still September and already the exhibition season has begun for National Hockey League teams. Well into the third period, with Mason McDonald in for Ramo and on the Oilers’ seventh powerplay of the game, Edmonton finally capitalized with the man advantage, and McDavid finally got on the board: dishing the puck to Leon Draisaitl, who snapped it in quick to tie the game.

First among these is 20-year-old Emile Poirier.
The winger posted a strong professional debut last season, racking up 42 points (19 goals, 23 assists) in 55 games for the AHL’s Adirondack Flames – and did so after missing time due to an off-season shoulder surgery.
Not the greatest first impression, but he’s well aware of the improvements he needs to make. I’ll be more ready.
“The good news, if you can take any, is that he won’t need any surgery”, Treliving said.
Having extra depth on defence should pay off in a big way for the Calgary Flames – at least to start the season. Schneider apparently caught the eye of the Flames brass during training camp.
The same can be said of 2015 draft pick Andrew Mangiapane.
“Mangiapane stands 5’10” and weighs in at 170 pounds-only slightly taller than Gaudreau, though 20 pounds heavier.
Giordano was a Norris Trophy candidate last season when Hamilton was playing for the Bruins alongside a former Norris victor, Zdeno Chara. His injury opens up the opportunity for other defensemen in training camp to show their abilities.
One of the most interesting names that made the rounds during Calgary’s prospects showing was that of Belarus native Pavel Karnaukhov.
Oliver Kylington and Markus Granlund replied for the Flames.
“I like Karnaukhov a lot. I’m trying to get there too, I suppose”, Michaels said.
Justin Schultz played an impressive game, and his goal and four shots were not disappointing.
“It was a one-timer from the point and there was traffic, so I didn’t see the puck”, Brodie told the media on Wednesday morning.
Last season the Washington Capitals and Oilers played twice. It doesn’t matter who you are. Guess you could call that a win? It’s no different for me now. I will keep my answer as a simple “I honestly can’t tell you”, but I think they can cut close.
I am not yet impressed with the performance of Ference or Nikitin.
Wotherspoon is much further along in the prospects process.
Tyler Wotherspoon, 22, appeared in six playoff games for Calgary last season. Hopefully, with his “last chance contract” we will see more than traffic-cone defense.

The Flames open the regular season in two weeks, on October 7, when they host the Vancouver Canucks at Scotiabank Saddledome.
