IPhone 6S deliveries could be delayed by Pope Francis visit

An employee who answered the phone yesterday at the Apple Store on Walnut Street near 16th – inside the papal-visit “traffic box” – said the store had no plans to delay the new iPhone’s launch in Philadelphia.

Based on an image shared by Sam Biddle on Twitter, Apple is informing customers that while there may be delivery issues on Friday in restricted areas, Saturday deliveries will be available in most areas.

It’s unclear exactly how many iPhone are expected for delivery Friday, though the company previously said it was on pace to beat last year’s 10 million unit first-weekend record when the new iPhones go on sale September 25.

Pope Francis arrived in the United States today, which is good news for millions of Catholics residing in the country but bad news for people expecting to get their hands on the new iPhone 6s, or 6s Plus, this week.

Although Apple routinely sends out notifications to major carriers to sync deliveries on the day that new Apple products are scheduled to be released, there are some instances where shipments are already in transit days before the scheduled rollout.

“The affected areas in New York City are all in Manhattan, including parts of Chelsea, Civic Center, East Harlem, Midtown, Tribeca and the Upper East Side and Upper West Side”.

As we reported on Monday, the Pope’s visit will affect deliveries to a whole host of ZIP codes throughout a number of Northeast cities.
