Dundee United striker Billy Mckay a doubt for Inverness clash

Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara won’t go into the next game with Inverness Caledonian Thistle worrying about his own job security.

Caley Thistle have enjoyed a marginally better start to the Ladbrokes Premiership season that second-bottom United.

But McNamara, who took control of the Tayside club in January 2013, insists they can turn the corner with a single win.

“Hopefully if we keep doing that the victory will come”. We never passed it, we never got on it. We asked players to be courageous, we peppered their goal. If Forfar were big at 10/11 away, then Peterhead are just as big at 4/7 at home and while that’s a little shorter than I normally like to offer up, with Shane Sutherland and Rory McAllister combining so well up top and Brechin haemorrhaging goals on a weekly basis I’d be comfortable having a go on the handicap.

“I want to win, I want to win every game”. I said that after Saturday.

“We’re still searching for that rhythm and style of play that we had past year”, said Hughes.

“Next week it’s Aberdeen and it’s that frustration again, coming up against a player I loved working with in Graeme Shinnie and one or two others who were at Inverness”.

United are on a bad run but McNamara maintains their confidence has not dipped too much.

“We never started at all”.

“They know what they have to do and are positive all the time”.

Striker Billy McKay has been carrying an ankle knock but should be fit. They welcomed Josh Meekings back into the fold against the Jambos and his importance can not be overstated, particularly after also losing his central defensive partner Gary Warren to long term injury.
