Nolin pitched five innings for Oakland, giving up seven hits and five runs with two strikeouts and two walks. The 17th win improved Lewis’ career high and is the most wins by a right-handed starter for Texas since Scott Feldman won 17 games in 2009.
Arnold Leon did a nice job in relief of Doubront, allowing only one walk in 21/3 innings. It was an ugly play that personified one of the larger ailments of this A’s roster.
Texas silenced any notion of a comeback when they scored three runs in the top of the 9th highlighted by Rougned Odor’s 15th home run on the year which reached the O.Co Coliseum second deck in right field.

Athletics: LHP Felix Doubront (2-1) is 0-5 with a 12.68 ERA and.427 opponents batting average against Texas his most losses against any team. He’s already set a career high for wins. After striking out Shin-Soo Choo to start the inning, he surrendered consecutive singles to Beltre, Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland, Moreland’s hit tying the score at 1-1.
Josh Reddick hit his 20th homer but committed two errors in right field, a rarity for the former Gold Glove victor.
The Lewis-Doubront match-up happened to be a rematch of the game between the Rangers and A’s on September 11 where Lewis took a flawless game into the 8th inning against the Oakland in Arlington.
“We tried to give him the silent treatment”, right fielder Josh Reddick said of the ritual usually reserved for players who hit their first homer in the majors.
Ranking 21st in home runs, Oakland has hit 135 this season. The Rangers were victorious the last time Lewis pitched. Despite what has lately become an approximately annual home run from Sogard, the Athletics dropped tonight’s contest against the Texas Rangers 10-3.
Neither were part of the A’s night.
With one more year of fairly cheap control before he hits free agency, it’ll be interesting to see what path the Rangers take with him, but he’s proven he can be a cornerstone piece to a winning club this year.
