State troopers said the hood of a Honda sedan was damaged by the plane’s wing during the landing, but the driver was not injured.

Scott Richmond was miles away from Fort Lauderdale Hollywood worldwide Airport when he was forced to land on the westbound lanes just before 9 a.m.

It is not known why the pilot diverted and made the emergency landing, but the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

Chopper4 was over the scene as the pilot could be seen walking around, talking to investigators. His plane appeared to have minimal, if any, damage. Mark Wysocky.

Investigators with the FAA said they are stepping in to investigate. “It was a good day for a bad thing to happen”.

Records show the single-engine plane was registered to Gary Hill of Hillsboro Pike in Nashville.

Westbound I-595 was blocked for several hours during the investigation and eventual removal of the plane.

Why the pilot landed on the interstate wasn’t immediately clear.

Pilot Charles Cory, 22, was credited for making a skilled landing in which no one was hurt. “All I had was the highway to my right and it was ideal for an emergency landing”.
