Microsoft today launched the Office 2016 package in India with a starting price of Rs. 5,999.
As well as the Windows suite, Office 2016 for Mac has also been released as a standalone purchase option (it had already been made available, but only to Office 365 subscribers previously).
Microsoft has also solved the cross-platform problem as all the users need not use the app itself but open the file in a browser-based version of the app. But the only limitation comes in the form of the user requiring to host or save these shared files in OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage service.
The entire suite consists of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Project, Visio and Access. With impetus on collaboration tools, Microsoft claims that Office 2016 has been built for teamwork.

One reported change is that groups of employees can now work on a single Word document and view each other’s comments as they are written. Skype for Business will also include a new co-authoring feature and be available for client apps with the Office 2016 release.
Cortana connects with Office 365 to help with tasks such as meeting preparation, with further integration with Outlook coming in November. It is used in expanding real-time co-authoring to each of our native apps and you should expect to see more over time.
Tell Me makes it easier to find Office features or commands, while Smart Lookup connects with the internet to provide insight within documents. Outlook will also contain an advanced search function, a “clutter” folder to group important emails and a functionality to send Cloud apps without downloading them.
Office 2016 will work on machines running Windows 7 and later. Office 365 plans including the desktop applications start at $13.20 per user per month (subject to an annual commitment). Microsoft promises GigJam will fully join Office 365 next year.
The initial reviews for Microsoft Office 2016 are positive.
If you have subscribed to office 365, you can download the latest update free today and if you do not have office 365 subscription, can buy the subscription to get access to the latest applications. As part of their subscription, Office 365 customers will receive new features and capabilities continuously in Office desktop apps.
