Microsoft releases Office 2016 — upgrade today!

The look and feel of the programs will be familiar to anyone who has used the 2013 edition of Microsoft’s productivity software, said Jared Spataro, a general manager of marketing with the Office team. Existing Office 365 subscribers running Windows 7 or later versions can upgrade to the new Office 2016 for both home and business.

Some new features are specific to certain Office apps. It makes sense from a consumer standpoint, but it means Microsoft isn’t making as much money as it could from the widespread use of Office. Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system, for instance, is being billed as “Windows as a Service” to reflect a continual, cloudlike update cadence. According to Microsoft, the all new office will come with new features to efficiently connect the software with the cloud and offer more simplicity while creating documents.

The update also brings support for features that make Office easier to use, like a “Tell Me” box that lets users search for a particular in-app function like setting line spacing without navigating the myriad series of buttons and menus available inside Office apps that control every little feature. The app will not be available till next quarter.

It’s insane Eddie time, folks: Users running Windows 10 with Office 2010 or earlier can now purchase a one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal for 50 percent off. It’s not clear when the deal will end, either, though it seems unlikely that Microsoft will keep it around forever.

The latest version of Office software Microsoft Office 2016 was launched on Tuesday by the USA giant tech Microsoft. Skype in-app integration allows you to instant message, screen share, talk and have video chats from within documents at any time, and builds even further on the idea of collaboration that is central to Office 2016. Modern Attachments, is another tweak, which allows all users mentioned in an Outlook 2016 email are allowed to view the file from its cloud source. Skype is coming to Office Online later this fall.

Microsoft India has announced the launch of the Office 2016 apps. In other words, when co-authoring say a Word document, you can see what others are writing or editing instantly.

Office 2016 may be made to be cross-platform but it’s designed to pair with Windows 10. Office 365 plans including the desktop applications start at $13.20 per user per month (subject to an annual commitment).
