Carnival Fantasy Sailing from Mobile in 2016

Carnival Cruise Lines are officially coming back to the Port City, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced Wednesday morning. The agreement runs about 13 months, from Nov. 9, 2016, to Nov. 27, 2017.

Mayor Stimpson is not the only one who is excited about the coming cruise ship. “We are building something special in Mobile, and this renewed partnership is evidence of that momentum”. Carnival’s departure then left Mobile with an empty passenger terminal, which has been used for dances, weddings and other events. The cruise line will offer four-day cruises to Cozumel and five-day excursions to Cozumel and Costa Maya or Progreso, Mexico. Each of these destinations are popular for their lovely white sand beaches, interesting historical sites and attractions, and excellent snorkeling, scuba diving and water sports.

In Progreso, tourists can visit Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, ancient Mayan ruins and enjoy great shopping and dining experience. Carnival Fantasy is the original ship in its class at 70,367 gross tons and was built-in 1990.

Before it starts service from Mobile, the Fantasy will be renovated, getting new venues such as Guy’s Burger Joint, Blue Iguana Cantina, Red Frog Rum Bar and Blue Iguana Tequila Bar.

In addition to the bars and restaurants, the Carnival Fantasy will also feature a massive spa, a water park, an adults-only retreat, casino gambling and more.

Mobile’s Alabama Cruise Terminal has been vacant since 2011, when the Carnival Elation moved to New Orleans. Carnival plans to replace the 25-year-old ship with the slightly newer Ecstasy in February.
