They determined that he was a cutter, and cut into a metal, military ordnance. Tucson police and Tucson fire crews were called, as were members of the police and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base bomb squads.

(CNN)The military ordnance that exploded in a Tucson, Arizona, scrapyard and killed a worker was an Mk 82 general-purpose bomb, police said Thursday.
A South Tucson police officer was driving past the scrapyard when someone flagged him down about an explosion.
Air Force officials told the station the type of explosive that detonated is used across all military branches and has been used for the last 50 years. “No one else was injured”. It is still unknown how the ordnance arrived at the facility.
They say it’s unclear what the ordnance was doing at the scrap yard or how it got there. The man has not been identified yet.
Authorities evacuated employees and searched for other explosives in the yard but no more were found, she said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has now launch an independent investigation, reports CNN.
