‘Fallout 4’s’ Perk System, Explained In Detail By Bethesda
(Fortunately, for those that agonize over building a character, players will get an early opportunity when leaving the vault to reassign points).

And judging from what Bethesda has shared so far, it looks like Fallout’s character creation is getting a major facelift.
Due to its rich lore, massive open worlds, quirky sense of humor, and distinctive gameplay mechanics like the VATS combat system, Bethesda’s Fallout series is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and unique franchises in recent memory.
Bethesda explains, “When selecting your starting SPECIALs, you can assign 28 points”. Each stat has 10 perks, bringing the total number of perks to 70.
Instead of going the 1950s cartoon route, Howard’s video starts by focusing upon the in-game Pip-Boy, which is used for everything from managing inventory and healing to upgrading and choosing perks. Ranking up the perk requires players to not only have the stat score for that SPECIAL attribute at the right level, but also to have a high enough overall rank.
Fallout 4 is a little over a month and a half away, and Bethesda’s been pulling back the curtain ever so slowly. But you need to have chosen the previous 4 ranks of Iron Fist and be level 46.
Perks are skills and abilities you choose when you level up. So with seven Specials with ten Perks a piece, that’s 70 base Perks.
On top of perk leveling, there are also additional ranks that can be gained by collecting magazines within the game. The Gun Nut Perk in Fallout 3 increased two separate Skills.
Another announcement made is that anybody who has pre-ordered a physical version of the game will get a copy of the Perks poster. You can check out the full chart below.
Fallout 4 is launching on November 10th across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
