It’s on Saturday, September 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.in front of the police department on 420 West Trinity Place. When those results are combined with what was collected in its previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 4.8 million pounds.

Several local police departments will be participating in a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday. A pair of Aquarium of the Pacific tickets will be awarded to the drivers of the 25th, 50th, 75th and 100th vehicles, stated the release. Medicines left in home cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse, abuse and diversion.

“We have certainly seen the harmful effects prescription drug abuse can have on a person, family and community”, Lyle said.

It’s once again time to clean out your medicine cabinet and turn over your expired and unneeded prescription and over-the-counter medications for proper disposal.

The DEA can not accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches, police say.

In addition to the very high rate of drug abuse in the United States, prescription drugs canalso lead to high rates of overdose and poisoning.

To find your nearest take-back site, call 1-800-222-1222 to speak to a poison center nurse. Residents may dispose of old or expired medications and over the counter medicines. When partnered with the DEA, any pills collected will be taken and disposed of by the federal agency.
