McLaren hopes to convince Button to stay

It seems that Button’s sense of fair play has convinced him that any statement should be made in England, and in tandem with his McLaren team, possibly in Woking next week.

McLaren’s option on Button’s services for 2016 is believed to expire at the end of the month with the clause reputedly guaranteeing the Englishman a substantial pay rise after he took in a cut in wages a year ago to secure his retention ahead of Kevin Magnussen.

“If your driver doesn’t want to be in the seat, you have to respect that”, Neale added.

McLaren’s managing director Jonathan Neale has dropped the biggest hint yet that Jenson Button will bring the curtain down on his Formula One career at the end of the season.

“I really hope that we have done enough between us to continue those discussions with him and have the confidence to keep him with us and that is what we would like”.
