3 runs isn’t the best offensive performance, and it only seemed good at the time because Kershaw was starting for the Dodgers. The Nats lost their third straight game Thursday, falling 5-4 to the Orioles. “It’s over for me, I’m sure it’s over for him”, Mattingly said. None of that stuff. Those guys being competitive, wanting to stay in the game, that never bothers me at all.
Following the game, both Kershaw and manager Don Mattingly opted to keep the contents of their altercation private. “After that, I just kept going and tried to make the outing as strong as I could”. He got the job done, striking out one during a ideal inning for his 42nd save.
“Fortunately, he left one up, and I was able to do exactly what I hoped to do”, Heisey said. “It’s between Donnie and I. Nobody else needs to know”.
But Grandal will be on the postseason roster, he will start many of those games, and he will likely be hitting anywhere from fifth to seventh.
He was asked about his emotions and responded, “Do you have a baseball question?” Lots of two-strike hits.
It has been a topsy-turvy year for Heisey.
But after a poor start to the season, a scintillating middle portion, and a couple injuries, Grandal has nearly completely ceased to exist for the Dodgers. The Dodgers remained confident he was worthy of a roster spot, re-acquiring him from Toronto last month after designating him for assignment in July.
He was beyond stoked, especially when he received a curtain call following his slam off reliever Andrew Chafin that went just inside the left-field foul pole.
