In addition, a slate of games were shown off, which will be running off the 1.0 version of the Rift software the day it launches. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

But that didn’t work out right away.

While it’s not surprising that Microsoft sees things a little differently than Notch, most Minecraft/Oculus Rift fans had essentially given up on ever seeing Minecraft on Oculus Rift and the announcement comes as a bit of a shock.

So if you want our prediction for the hottest gift for kids next Christmas, we’d probably put money on an Oculus headset with a copy of Minecraft for Windows 10.

It’s bound to prove popular, as anything involving Minecraft does, but there’s no footage of what it will actually look like available just yet.

TechRadar, meanwhile, noted that this will specifically be the Minecraft for Windows 10 edition of the game. As with Toybox, Oculus assigns someone to join you and explain the system’s tools, appearing as a disembodied pair of hands and a featureless head – it’s always a little surprising how expressive these simple features can be. The Oculus Rift, by contrast, replaces the screen and PC with a smartphone. Now, it’s up to him to get it up and running.

It was unveiled during the conference that Facebook’s virtual reality platform will bring the technology to the mainstream with its lower-cost hardware and numerous media partnerships. Facebook/Oculus announced a 50% price cut for the Gear VR (mobile VR solution) headset to $99 (goes on sale this November). “There’s nothing about their history that makes me trust them, and that makes them seem creepy to me”, he said at the time.

But despite all of that, Minecraft nearly didn’t end up on the Oculus stage today.

“I guess I can say this now”.

“We’re thrilled to announce Minecraft for the #Rift!”

In an interview with PCGamer, VP of Product for Oculus Nate Mitchell said that the Oculus Rift price will be “at least $300”.
