Evidence Bag In Hockey Star’s Rape Case Just A ‘Bizarre Hoax’
On Thursday evening, Thomas Eoannou, who represents Kane’s accuser, called a press conference to announce he has withdrawn from the case.

Questions over a supposed evidence bag the former lawyer for Patrick Kane’s accuser presented Wednesday were put to bed by Eire County (NY) District Attorney Frank Sedita III Friday. He said this called into question the evidence in the case and alleged that the DNA findings could have been tampered with.
This same dynamic would be true if Kane is indicted and goes to trial: His lawyer, Paul Cambria, would ridicule the case against his client as born from a circus atmosphere and not from authenticated testimony.
But if Sedita did find evidence of the accuser’s involvement, it would clearly help Kane’s position.
Despite the seemingly shady nature of what’s happened this week, Sedita said his office will not bring charges against the accuser’s mother, as it appears she has not broken any laws.
But Sedita fired back against those allegations Friday at the news conference.
“This evidence bag has been ripped open,”Eoannou said at the time”. “There will be one of two actions taken by this office: this case will either be administratively closed, as other cases have been, or this case will be presented to the grand jury”.
The attorney for a woman accusing National Hockey League player Patrick Kane of sexual assault said Thursday that he, “no longer had confidence in the story given”. And the victim’s mother never found it inside her front door, Sedita said. “The evidence bag was torn, affixed to the bag was a label identifying my client in the investigation”, Eoannou said. “I have looked into that and I do not have confidence in that version of the events”.
No decision has been made yet as to whether Kane will be charged in this case.
“Almost similar to what you would do at a trial, complete with video surveillance showing the individuals who were involved in the rape kit”, Rossi said.
Kane was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his home in Hamburg, New York.
“Whether or not someone has tried to reach out to me, I’m not going to comment on today”, he said. “It has never left custody”, Sedita said. The mother – who Sedita says denies perpetuating a hoax – never reported to police or prosecutors that the bag had been left at her home. “I think the investigation is forever tainted”.
The bag was given to the accuser’s mother by the hospital when she accompanied her daughter to the hospital for the rape kit examination on the morning of August. 2, according to Sedita.
“One has nothing to do with the other”, Eoannou said.

Sedita’s investigative team interviewed the mother as part of the evidence-tampering investigation. She could not go into work on Friday for fear for her personal safety and the safety of her coworkers.
