Auburn Tigers to Start Sean White Over Jeremy Johnson as QB

Instead of getting a breakout Heisman Trophy campaign from new quarterback Jeremy Johnson, Auburn is turning to someone else to run the show.

White, a redshirt freshman from Boca Raton, Fla., has yet to take a college snap. So today Gus Malzahn decided that it was time for a change, he benched Jeremy Johnson in favor of the young and also unproven Sean White.

“I do think we have to get better, absolutely”.

“I feel like he’ll get back out there and when he does, I know he’ll be excited to get out and we’ll be excited to have him”, Frost said. His coaches and his teammates have a lot of confidence in him, and he’s earned that.

The Auburn offense meanwhile sputtering again under the guidance of junior q-b Jeremy Johnson, another pick for him in that game, making 6 for the season.

Malzahn said Johnson accepted the decision as “a team guy”.

Johnson went 11 for 19 for 100 yards and rushed for 41 yards against LSU. Fortunately for Johnson, not all hope is lost for him to play in the future.

“(Johnson) can flat out throw it”, Malzahn said in July.

Blake Countess and Shon Coleman met with the media Tuesday morning ahead of Auburn’s game against Mississippi State. I think he’s able to compartmentalize things.

Mastrole has worked with White since the eighth grade and believes he’s a rare quarterback who mentally gets it and is mature enough to avoid the stage becoming too big.

Leonard Fournette had a career day against the Auburn defense, which many expected to be better by now under new coordinator Will Muschamp.

It all comes down to performance during game-play, and regardless of how good Johnson was in spring camp, he has not been doing well. He was also 4-for-5 passing for 18 yards.

Of the seven teams in the SEC West, three have no losses while Auburn is among three that have one loss.

Countess was asked if he thought true freshman Byron Cowart is the guy to step in while Lawson recovers.

TCU coach Gary Patterson called suspended defensive end Mike Tuaua one of the more-liked players on the team and said the facts will come out in a case that has the senior and another player facing robbery charges.
